The Federal High Court in Kano has set June 13th for a crucial ruling on its jurisdiction over a fundamental human rights suit impacting the Kano Emirate.
Justice Abdullahi Liman made the announcement after hearing arguments on whether the court can entertain the case brought by Aminu Dan’Agundi, Sarkin Dawaki Babba.
Dan’Agundi seeks to halt the enforcement of the repealed Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024.
Respondents include the Kano State Government, State House of Assembly, its Speaker, Attorney General, Commissioner of Police, IGP, NSCDC, and DSS.
This case follows a previous court order stopping the enforcement of the controversial law that led to the dethronement of Emir Aminu Bayero and four other first-class emirs, reinstating Lamido Sanusi.
Security was tight at Thursday’s hearing, with police and DSS ensuring order.
The June 13th ruling will decide if the court can proceed with Dan’Agundi’s case, potentially reshaping Kano’s traditional governance.
