A police officer attached to the Federal Capital Territory FCT Command has been taken into custody for allegedly stabbing a man to death during a dispute in Nyanya.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the officer, identified as ASP Sunday Alabi, was responding to a reported burglary case around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday when the incident occurred.
According to the sources, Alabi attempted to arrest a suspect, but tensions escalated as a crowd gathered, challenging the arrest. In the ensuing commotion, he allegedly stabbed 35-year-old Clement Itom in the chest before retreating to the police station.
The victim was rushed to Nyanya General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. A bloodstained jackknife was recovered from the scene as evidence.
Alabi is now in police custody, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the case. Authorities have assured the public of a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.
