The Federal Capital Territory FCT Police Command has arrested a woman, Vera Onyebigwa, for allegedly trafficking a 6-year-old girl she claimed to have bought from the child’s father for ₦500,000.

According to police sources, the arrest took place on April 25, 2025, after a distress call alerted operatives from Gwagwalada Division to a suspected trafficking incident near the Timber Shed area. Officers swiftly moved to the scene and apprehended Onyebigwa, a resident of No. 38 Murtala Mohammed Way, Benin City, Edo State, who was found with the young girl whose identity remains unknown.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Onyebigwa intended to transport the child to Benin City before her plan was foiled. A Good Samaritan, alarmed by the child’s cries, had quickly alerted the police, leading to her rescue.

The child is now in protective custody, while police authorities have launched a full investigation into the disturbing incident.
