Her post underscores the significance of taking preventive measures to combat this disease, which remains the fourth most common cancer among women globally.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cervical cancer claimed approximately 350,000 lives in 2022, with 660,000 new cases reported worldwide.

This staggering statistic underscores the critical need for awareness, early detection, and treatment. In her message, Hajiya Fatima emphasized the importance of regular screening and vaccination against the human papillomavirus (HPV), the primary cause of cervical cancer.

A Call to Action: Cervical Cancer Elimination Day

November 17 marks the fourth anniversary of the launch of the WHO’s global strategy to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem.

The 90-70-90 targets aim to ensure that 90% of girls are vaccinated against HPV by the age of 15, 70% of women are screened using a high-performance test by the age of 35 and again by 45, and 90% of those identified with cervical disease receive treatment.

Hajiya Fatima highlighted this year’s Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action as an opportunity for women to prioritize their health.

She urged women in Katsina State and beyond to utilize screening services and take proactive steps to prevent the disease.

Her X post read:

> “Cervical cancer is preventable. Early detection saves lives. On this Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action, I join the WE GLOW TEAL campaign to advocate for awareness, vaccination, and regular screening. Take control of your health. Get screened today.”

Promoting Access to Screening Services

In Katsina State, the governor’s wife has been a staunch advocate for women’s health, supporting initiatives that enhance access to healthcare services.

As part of her commitment to reducing the burden of cervical cancer, Hajiya Fatima has partnered with healthcare organizations to provide free cervical cancer screenings and vaccinations in local communities.

One beneficiary of these programs, Amina Suleiman, shared her experience:

“I had never considered screening until I heard about the campaign organized by Her Excellency.

The test was quick and painless, and I’m relieved to know I’m healthy. I encourage all women to take this step.”

Breaking the Silence Around Cervical Cancer

Cultural and societal barriers often prevent women from seeking timely medical care.

Hajiya Fatima’s public endorsement of the WE GLOW TEAL campaign is a bold step towards breaking the stigma surrounding cervical cancer.

By leveraging her platform, she is fostering an environment where women feel empowered to prioritize their health.

Join the Movement

As the world observes Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action, Hajiya Fatima’s message serves as a powerful reminder that prevention and early detection are key.

Women are encouraged to visit healthcare centers for screening and to educate themselves about the benefits of HPV vaccination.

Through the WE GLOW TEAL campaign, Hajiya Fatima Dikko Radda continues to shine a spotlight on cervical cancer awareness, inspiring women to take charge of their health for a brighter, cancer-free future.
