A tragic incident unfolded in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State when suspected herders invaded a beans farm, killing a farmer in the process.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the attack occurred around 12:20 a.m. on Saturday at Ngolom bush, when about ten herders allegedly led their cattle to graze on a farm belonging to local farmers.
According to the complainant, Abatcha Abatcha of Gana Ali Ward, the farmers confronted the herders and asked them to vacate the farm, but the situation quickly turned violent. “The herders attacked us with sticks,” Abatcha recounted.
One of the farmers, Bakulu Bafindi, aged 30, from Sabon Lamba Ward in Maiduguri, was fatally injured during the confrontation. He was rushed to Monguno General Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed him dead.
His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary and released to relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.
Meanwhile, security forces and local vigilantes have launched a manhunt to apprehend those behind the attack, as tensions remain high in the farming community.
