Fake Soldier Nabbed With Toy Pistol in Akwa Ibom

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a suspected impostor who allegedly paraded himself as a military officer while using a toy pistol to intimidate residents in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The suspect, identified as Jonathan Akpan from Obio Aduang Village, was apprehended by police operatives on March 6, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m., following credible intelligence received by the Command.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspect was found in possession of a toy pistol allegedly used to threaten and intimidate unsuspecting residents in the area. Substances suspected to be Indian hemp were also recovered from him at the time of his arrest.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly been posing as a military officer to deceive members of the public and carry out unlawful activities.

The police spokesperson said the arrest followed a surveillance operation carried out by operatives after receiving actionable intelligence, which led to the successful capture of the suspect.
The Command noted that further investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other possible members of the suspect’s criminal network.

Reaffirming its resolve to maintain peace and security across the state, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that will assist security agencies in tackling crime.

The Command also warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist, stressing that the long arm of the law will eventually catch up with offenders.
