Explosives Intercepted: Katsina Police Smash Dangerous Supply Line, Nab 3 Suspects

Borno State Government

In a major breakthrough against criminal networks, the Katsina State Police Command has intercepted a huge consignment of highly explosive materials, arresting three suspects in a carefully coordinated, intelligence-led operation.

Acting on the nationwide directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on heightened vigilance and proactive highway patrols, the Command—under the leadership of Bello Shehu—struck at Koza village in Daura Local Government Area, dealing a decisive blow to illegal explosives trafficking in the state.

The dramatic interception occurred on January 7, 2026, when operatives on stop-and-search duty flagged down a Volkswagen Golf vehicle. A thorough search of the car, driven by 40-year-old Jamilu Musa, led to the discovery of a staggering 6,975 detonators expertly concealed inside the vehicle.

Further interrogation opened up a wider criminal trail. The suspect confessed that the deadly materials were received from an accomplice currently on the run and were being transported from Kano State to Mai’adua axis of Katsina. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police operatives arrested two additional suspects—22-year-old Ibrahim Murtala and 35-year-old Sulaiman Muhammad.

A follow-up operation led to an even more shocking recovery: 7,500 electric detonators and 30½ bags of gelatin explosives weighing a massive 2,273.65 kilograms.

Police sources confirmed that the suspects have confessed to the crime and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while an intensive manhunt is underway to apprehend fleeing accomplices.

The Katsina State Police Command reiterated its resolve to protect lives and property, warning criminal elements that the state will remain hostile territory for those intent on threatening public safety.
