End of an Era: Sarkin Sasa, Arewa Traditional Rulers’ Chairman, Passes Away at 107

His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Dr Haruna Maiyasin Katsina, the revered Sarkin Sasa and Chairman of Arewa Traditional Rulers in the 17 Southern States, has passed away at the age of 107.

The Sardauna Yamma breathed his last on Saturday at Cure Hospital, Moniya, Oyo State, following a brief illness.

A family member confirmed his demise, stating that funeral arrangements have been finalized in accordance with Islamic rites. The Janaza prayer will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 1400 hours.

Until his passing, Sarkin Sasa was a towering figure in Arewa leadership, fostering unity and serving as a bridge for the Northern community in Southern Nigeria. His death marks the end of an era for the Arewa Traditional Council, with tributes pouring in from dignitaries and community leaders nationwide.
