A solemn display of reverence, the Emir of Damaturu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar El-Kanemi, earlier this morning led a special prayer session for the repose of the soul of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
The prayer, held at the Damaturu Central Mosque, drew hundreds of worshippers, community leaders, and clerics, all united in seeking Allah’s mercy and eternal peace for the late statesman. The Emir, who described Buhari as “a leader who stood firm for Nigeria’s unity, integrity, and progress,” urged the faithful to remember him not only in prayer but through national service and good conduct.
“As we mourn his passing, we must uphold the values of honesty, simplicity, and discipline which he lived by,” the Emir said in his address.
Meanwhile, the nation prepares for a grand special Juma’at prayer this afternoon at the National Mosque in Abuja. Similar prayer sessions are scheduled to take place in Juma’at mosques across all 36 states and the FCT, as Nigerians of all walks of life come together to honor the memory of the former President.
Buhari, who died earlier this week, served Nigeria with distinction and is being remembered for his unwavering fight against corruption, his frugal lifestyle, and his deep commitment to the country’s sovereignty.
The special nationwide prayer is expected to be attended by top political leaders, clerics, diplomats, and citizens, as the nation continues to mourn a man many regarded as “Baba Buhari” — a father figure in times of national trial.
Flags remain at half-mast across government buildings, and condolence registers are open in embassies and public institutions worldwide.
