The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has raised alarms over what it describes as financial recklessness under the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu. In a statement by PDP Publicity Secretary Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal, the party expressed outrage at the governor’s decision to spend billions of Naira on wire fencing in Sokoto Metropolis amid worsening economic conditions.
The PDP criticized the administration for prioritizing wasteful projects while neglecting the rural areas and called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch a thorough investigation into the N30 billion fencing project. The party further accused the governor of bypassing due process and awarding contracts to faceless contractors without proper procurement standards.
The call for a probe follows growing concerns over Governor Aliyu’s financial practices, including an earlier controversy surrounding N1.2 billion spent on borehole repairs and over N500 million allocated to erect archways around the government house.
“The EFCC must act swiftly to ensure justice for the people of Sokoto and hold this administration accountable for its blatant disregard for public funds,” the statement read.
As dissatisfaction grows even within the ruling APC, the PDP insists that an investigation is critical to protecting the state’s future.
