Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has called for calm amid rising tensions following the declaration of Monday Okpebholo of the APC as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election. In a heartfelt appeal, Obaseki urged residents to avoid violence and channel their frustrations through legal avenues.

Acknowledging the widespread disappointment over what he termed a “tainted electoral process,” Obaseki emphasized the importance of upholding democratic values. “When power is seized from the people, it’s not just a tragedy, but a travesty,” he stated, reflecting on the feelings of disenfranchisement among many Edo citizens.

Obaseki reassured the public that justice will ultimately prevail and encouraged those aggrieved to pursue their grievances legally. “Peace and justice will always win in the end,” he affirmed, calling on all Edo people to maintain their dignity and continue their lawful activities.

As tensions simmer, the governor’s message stands clear: violence is not the answer, and the fight for justice must be rooted in the principles of democracy.
