Drama in Kano: Governor Orders Arrest of Deposed Emir Aminu Bayero

Katsina state government

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has ordered the immediate arrest of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, for attempting to forcefully return to the palace.

Governor Yusuf’s directive, issued by his spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, accuses Bayero of inciting tension and disturbing public peace.

The former emir was reportedly smuggled back into Kano late Friday night, two days after his dethronement, sparking unrest.

“The former Emir’s actions have threatened the relative peace of Kano State.

His Excellency has instructed the Commissioner of Police to arrest him immediately,” the statement read.

This incident follows the recent reappointment of former Central Bank Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano, after a controversial repeal of a 2019 law that had created four additional emirates.

Governor Yusuf has also issued a 48-hour ultimatum for all deposed emirs to vacate their palaces.

As the situation unfolds, Kano remains on edge, with the public closely watching the developments in this high-stakes political drama.
