Nigeria’s political space has been jolted by a blistering critique from former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who has described the administration of President Tinubu as a “failure,” warning citizens against endorsing what he termed poor leadership.
In a widely circulated video that has sparked national debate, Obasanjo did not mince words, branding the current government as ineffective and incompetent, with dire consequences for ordinary Nigerians.
“When you have an ineffective and incompetent government, we are all victims,” the former leader declared, noting that businesses and livelihoods would have fared far better under a capable and results-driven administration.
Obasanjo acknowledged that every government inherits challenges but accused the Tinubu administration of hiding behind excuses instead of delivering tangible outcomes.
“You came in knowing there are challenges… and now you are giving excuses. That is why you haven’t achieved results,” he said.
Drawing from his military background, the elder statesman issued a stern warning, urging Nigerians not to tolerate or legitimize underperformance in governance.
“The first lesson I learned in military training is never reinforce failure… What we have now is failure. Never you reinforce it,” he stressed.
The remarks have since ignited intense reactions across political and public spheres, with analysts describing them as one of the most direct and forceful condemnations of the current administration by a former head of state.
As of press time, the Presidency has yet to issue an official response, leaving many to watch closely as the criticism continues to reverberate nationwide.
