His Royal Highness, Shehu of Dikwa, Alhaji Ibrahim Ibn Umar Ibrahim El-Kanemi, on Monday, November 25, 2024 received the executive governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum at his palace in Dikwa town.
The visit followed the Governor’s trip to Ngala Local Government Area, where he assessed the damage caused by recent flooding in Gamboru town.
During his visit to Dikwa town, the headquarters of Dikwa local government, Governor Zulum has provided farming equipment, including five tractors, a water pump, chemicals, fertilisers, onion seeds, and wheat seeds in order to support the local farming activities in agrarian communities of Dikwa.
The Royal father, the Shehu of Dikwa has commended the governor’s commitment in serving his people and appreciated the timely in providing farm tools, noting that Dikwa Emirate has a long-standing history of farming and fishing activities.
The Shehu also appealed to Governor Zulum to fast track reconstruction of Dikwa-Ngala road, while urging the governor direct the contractors to resume work at the site amid cessation of rainfall and floodwaters along the highway.
While responding to the pressing issue, governor Zulum has pledged to look into the matter, ensuring that the construction of the highway will resumes immediately without delay, saying that even the vice president of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima has expressed concerns about the dilapidated nature of Dikwa-Ngala road. According to governor Zulum, Senator Shettima’s worry stems from his experience as the former governor of Borno State, where he initiated the highway project to enhance connectivity between neighbouring countries of Chad, Cameroon as well as economic growth in the lake Chad region.
At last, the governor commended the Shehu for always being there for his subjects and raising concerns about pressing issues affecting the people with a view of finding solutions that will bring about sustainable peace and development in the Emirate Council.
