…As Telecom Firm Moves to Strengthen Partnership with Theatre Command
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Committee on the review of the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s Joint Defence Doctrine has visited Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Maiduguri, as part of its nationwide consultations.
The four-man committee, led by Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Isah, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, met with commanders and officers of the OPHK to gather strategic inputs for the ongoing review of the Joint Defence Doctrine.
Welcoming the delegation, Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, described the review as “timely and critical” to enhancing jointness and interoperability among the Services. He emphasized that synergy remains the key to operational effectiveness in the fight against insurgency in the North East.
AVM Isah, Chairman of the DHQ Committee, explained that the doctrine undergoes review every five years, noting that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, directed the current update to reflect emerging security realities. He commended Theatre Command for its contributions, with Brigadier General Nelson Okafor of the 57 Signals Brigade presenting on behalf of the Command.
Meanwhile, Theatre Command also hosted officials of IHS Towers and Strength, a leading telecom infrastructure company, on a courtesy visit.
Team Leader, Colonel Abdulkadir Ahmed (rtd), said the firm sought stronger collaboration in protecting telecommunications facilities across the North East, given their vulnerability. He noted that the company, beyond maintaining masts and equipment for telecom providers, has supported some military locations in the region as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Responding, Maj Gen Abubakar assured the firm of OPHK’s commitment to safeguarding critical national infrastructure in line with the recent Presidential directive on the protection of strategic assets.
