In a bold statement, Hamza Kyari, council to the minors detained after the August protests, has called for the removal of Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police.
Speaking to Premium Times in Abuja, Kyari argued that the IG’s handling of the minors’ detention shows a “deep disregard for the rights of young citizens.”
Kyari condemned the prolonged detentions, asserting that the IG failed to uphold due process and protect minors from legal excesses.
The call for the IG’s removal has added fuel to the ongoing debate around police reform and accountability in Nigeria.
