The heat is back on insurgents in the North-East as troops of the Nigerian Army under Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, stormed and shattered multiple ISWAP camps in northern Borno State, shrugging off a rare terrorist drone attack in a bold show of battlefield dominance.
Military sources said the latest thrust of Operation Desert Sanity, launched early January 18, sliced through the rugged Chiralia–Garin Faruk–Abima axis—long notorious as insurgent havens. Moving swiftly from a secured harbour area, the Intervention Battalion applied relentless, intelligence-driven pressure that sent terrorists fleeing, abandoning camps with tell-tale signs of recent occupation.
By midday, the operation hit a tense moment when insurgents attempted to stall the advance with an armed drone. Three soldiers were injured but stabilized and evacuated. The response on the ground was immediate: formations tightened, momentum held—and the clearance pressed on.
Weapons and equipment were recovered, hideouts flattened, and escape routes sealed, further constricting the operational space of the Islamic State West Africa Province.
Security watchers say the message from the desert is unmistakable: the Army is advancing, the terrorists are retreating, and northern Borno is steadily being pried from extremist grip—one camp at a time.
