In a pre-dawn offensive against crime, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Monday stormed notorious black spots in Eket Local Government Area, arresting five suspects and recovering a cache of suspected illicit drugs and items.
The coordinated operation, carried out at about 4:00 a.m. on February 9, 2026, followed standing directives by the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, to intensify raids on criminal enclaves across the state.
Police sources said the early-morning swoop caught occupants off guard, leading to the arrest of three males and two females identified as Bassey Bassey, Blessing Joshua, Christiana Emmanuel, Alfa Bamese and Chidiebere Ekwozor.
A search of the premises reportedly yielded dried leaves suspected to be Colorado (colos), assorted Tramadol and Codeine tablets, methamphetamine (popularly known as “Ice”), liquid and loud intoxicants, an unknown black powder, an ATM card, several pictures and documents, as well as cash amounting to ₦15,800.
One of the suspects, Alfa Bamese, told investigators that some of the recovered pictures were meant for an “assignment,” a claim detectives say is being thoroughly examined as investigations deepen to establish the suspects’ roles and possible links to wider criminal networks.
The Command said all suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, assuring residents that the crackdown will be sustained until criminal elements are flushed out of communities.
Reaffirming its resolve, the Police urged members of the public to continue supporting law-enforcement efforts with timely and credible information, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to keeping Akwa Ibom safe.
