Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have foiled a suspected cable vandalism syndicate in a swift early-morning operation in Eket, arresting three suspects and recovering critical exhibits linked to the crime.
The breakthrough came at about 4:00 a.m. on February 22, 2026, when officers, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Obiokpa Street in Eket Local Government Area. The intelligence revealed that miscreants had been vandalising cables under the cover of darkness—an act described as economic sabotage capable of crippling businesses and endangering public safety.
Police sources said one Isaac Peter was apprehended at the scene, with exhibits believed to be connected to the vandalism recovered on the spot. Further investigation led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Peter Jacob and Edoho Nsima, allegedly linked to the coordinated operation.
Preliminary findings indicate that the trio may have been part of a wider conspiracy targeting critical infrastructure in the area. The suspects are currently in custody as investigators work to unravel the full network and identify possible collaborators.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on vandalism and economic sabotage, warning that perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.
The Command assured residents of sustained efforts to safeguard public and private infrastructure across the state, urging members of the public to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations.
The arrests mark another decisive step in the Police Command’s renewed offensive against criminal networks threatening economic stability in Akwa Ibom.
