Tensions are brewing within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina as key stakeholders from Daura Emirate have firmly rejected alleged moves to impose candidates ahead of party decisions.
At a closed-door meeting on Saturday, party leaders from Zango, Baure, Mai’adua, Sandamu and Daura voiced strong opposition to what they described as attempts by some political office holders to handpick aspirants under the guise of backing from Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
Speaking on behalf of the group, former APC National Legal Adviser, Usman Ahmed El-Marzuk, dismissed the claims, insisting that the governor has not endorsed any candidate.
He reiterated that Governor Radda has consistently advocated for either consensus or open contest in line with party rules.
“El-Marzuk warned that any move to bypass due process could fracture party unity and hand undue advantage to opposition forces, stressing that ‘imposition will not be tolerated.’”
Also lending his voice, Bala Musa Daura urged party faithful to ignore the rumours, noting that the alleged endorsements were already stirring anxiety among supporters.
Stakeholders at the meeting were unanimous in their stance, insisting that each local government must retain the right to determine its candidates through transparent and democratic means.
In a decisive move, the group resolved to intensify consultations and set up a committee to engage Governor Radda directly, signaling a looming internal showdown as the party navigates the delicate path to consensus.
