Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced its readiness to supply 1.5 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) every month to meet domestic fuel demand, a move expected to stabilize Nigeria’s petrol supply and reduce dependency on imports.
The refinery, located in Lagos, said this volume translates to about 50 million litres daily, starting from December 2025. Officials also indicated that supply would gradually increase to 1.7 billion litres per month, or roughly 57 million litres daily, from February 2026.
In a letter to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the refinery invited regulators to monitor daily production and stock levels to ensure transparency and accountability in distribution.
The announcement comes as Nigeria faces recurring fuel shortages, especially during festive periods when demand is highest. Dangote Refinery stated that the initiative aims to prevent scarcity and ensure regular availability across filling stations nationwide.
Industry experts say the refinery’s output could significantly reduce the country’s reliance on imported petrol, strengthen local refining capacity, and support the government’s push for energy self-sufficiency.
Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the announcement, expressing hope that the refinery’s pledge will lead to consistent fuel supply, shorter queues, and more stable prices during the busy holiday season.
