Symbolic Cheque Presented at Gboko Women Empowerment Programme
In a powerful push to boost grassroots enterprise, Dangote Cement Plc has empowered women from its host communities in Gboko, Benue State, with ₦100,000 each to grow and expand their businesses.
At the 2025 Women Empowerment Programme held Wednesday, the company presented symbolic cheques to the jubilant beneficiaries, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development and community impact.
Speaking at the event, Group Head of Social Performance, Mr. Wakeel Olayiwola, stated, “When women succeed in business, they uplift their families and communities. This grant is not a loan—it’s an investment in their future.”
Traditional leaders and the Dangote Community Consultative Committee (DCCC) were tasked with selecting beneficiaries from six host communities: Quarry, Tse-Kucha, Amua, Mbazembe, Mbatur, and Pass Brothers.
Acting Plant Director Engr. Munusamy Murugan, represented by Engr. Tavershima Soom, revealed that the initiative will be an annual event, alongside other programmes like youth skill training and farmers’ empowerment schemes.
Head of Social Performance, Gboko Plant, Mr. Johnson Kor, urged community representatives to remain committed partners, highlighting Dangote’s ongoing contributions.
Grateful recipients, like Ruth Ikyowe Tser and Vishigh Comfort Msurshiona, shared plans to invest in cassava farming and commodity trading, respectively.
The initiative follows Dangote’s recent 100% increase in bursary payments to students, marking yet another milestone in the cement giant’s support for its host communities.
