The Honorable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, yesterday unveiled ambitious plans for Nigeria’s housing sector while presenting the Ministry’s 2025 budget proposals to the National Assembly.
In a detailed report to the Senate and House Committees on Housing, Dangiwa outlined the Ministry’s achievements under the 2023 Supplementary Budget and 2024 Appropriation Act, including: Renewed Hope Housing Programme: Over 10,112 housing units are under construction in 13 states and the FCT, creating 252,800 jobs.
And National Housing Programme: Progress on legacy projects initiated in 2016. Urban Renewal Drive: Expansion of slum upgrades across 100 sites nationwide. Also Federal Secretariats: Ongoing construction and rehabilitation projects.
To sustain progress and meet Nigeria’s housing needs, Dangiwa proposed increasing the Ministry’s 2025 budget allocation from N83.7 billion to N360 billion. Key objectives include: Delivering 20,000 affordable homes annually. Expanding housing projects to 18 additional states.
Also Completing Federal Secretariats in six states and initiating five new ones. Boosting artisanship through Building Craft Training Schools in Lagos and Imo.And Upgrading slum and urban infrastructure at 100 new sites nationwide.
“Quality housing is at the heart of national development,” Dangiwa stated, expressing gratitude to the National Assembly for its support.
He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to actualizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The proposal, if approved, promises to redefine Nigeria’s housing landscape and uplift millions of citizens.
