The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a sweeping reform to slash cargo clearance time at the nation’s ports from a staggering 21 days to just 48 hours.
Unveiling the One-Stop-Shop (OSS) initiative, the Comptroller-General of Customs said the new system would bring all Customs units under one roof, ensuring flagged declarations are jointly examined and resolved without the frustrating re-interceptions that often stall trade.
According to Punch, the reform introduces a centralised dashboard to track clearance timelines, monitor interventions, and measure stakeholder satisfaction—an innovation aimed at boosting transparency and accountability across the board.
The OSS will kick off at Apapa, Tin Can Island, and Onne ports before expanding nationwide. The Customs boss stressed that the initiative is in line with global best practices, the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, and the World Trade Organisation’s Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA).
He added that the reform is central to the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business agenda and is expected to sharpen Nigeria’s competitiveness in international trade.
