In a decisive blow against wildlife trafficking, operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service have intercepted four live pangolins during a targeted patrol in Ogun State.
The interception was carried out by officers of the Federal Operations Unit Zone A, following actionable intelligence that led a patrol team to Alapa Creek in the Ajilete community area of Ogun State.
Customs sources said the rare animals were found alive and secured during the operation, underscoring the Service’s renewed resolve to clamp down on the illicit wildlife trade along Nigeria’s border corridors and waterways.
Officials noted that the operation aligns with ongoing efforts to protect endangered species and dismantle trafficking networks that exploit Nigeria’s creeks and forest routes. The rescued pangolins are expected to be handed over to relevant conservation authorities for proper care and rehabilitation.
