A potentially deadly family dispute in Ikot Imoh Village, Akwa Ibom, ended in swift police action as officers of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested 24-year-old Ubong Friday Benson, a suspected cultist, after he allegedly threatened to kill his father with a dagger.
According to a press release signed by DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, the father (name withheld) raised an alarm when his son barricaded himself and menaced him with a blade, having previously threatened him with a hidden locally made pistol.
Responding rapidly, a tactical team apprehended the suspect and recovered a locally fabricated firearm hidden in nearby bushes, along with a cache of dangerous tools: a dagger, penknife, iron filer, chisel, and hammer.
Preliminary findings suggest Benson may have attacked other community members, though only his father has formally testified. Investigations are ongoing as authorities vow to bring him to justice.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reaffirmed its zero tolerance for cultism and community violence, urging residents to continue cooperating in the fight against crime.
