MAIDUGURI The Borno State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally disassociated itself from the Transitional and Registration committees allegedly established by a party chieftain, Kashim Imam Matawalle. Speaking at a press conference held at the Nani and Boi Hotels in Maiduguri, the State Working Committee Chairman, Umar Bolori, condemned the move as a desperate attempt to hijack the party’s administrative structures without due process.
Bolori, while addressing journalists, described the committees as the handiwork of “political jobbers” intent on infiltrating the party to serve external interests ahead of the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that the ADC leadership in Borno operates an open door policy rooted in consultation, a standard he claims Imam’s group flagrantly ignored.
The situation reportedly took a violent turn when the faction led by Imam allegedly attempted to seize control of a party gathering. Bolori detailed a harrowing account of how the group engaged political thugs to “forcefully invade” the Pinnacle Hotel premises, breaching security protocols and inflicting injuries on loyal party members and security personnel. The Chairman insisted that the state leadership was never involved in the meeting and remains completely distanced from any resolutions reached therein.
Vowing to defend the party’s integrity, Bolori announced that the ADC is taking decisive legal and administrative steps to address the breach. He confirmed that the party has already petitioned the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to intervene and curtail further lawlessness. He warned that the party will not tolerate any individual, regardless of status, undermining the ADC’s internal security and constitution.
Amidst the internal friction, Bolori took a sharp swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), characterizing its tenure at both the state and national levels as a period of “unprecedented failure.” He cited rising insecurity and biting poverty as evidence of the APC’s inability to govern, asserting that the ADC is strategically positioning itself to “wrestle power legitimately” in 2027. He noted that the party has already begun receiving defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) who are disillusioned with the current administration.
While urging party supporters to remain calm and law abiding, the Chairman called on the national leadership of the ADC to intervene immediately to sanitize the state chapter. He assured members that wider consultations are ongoing to inaugurate legitimate committees that will steer the party to victory, promising that the ADC will remain a disciplined and formidable alternative for the people of Borno.
