The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and three other top officials over alleged anti-party activities and violations of the party’s constitution.
The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) took the decision during an emergency meeting held at its national secretariat in Abuja on Saturday.
Those affected by the suspension include the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; and the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature.
According to a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the officials were suspended for one month pending the outcome of investigations by the party’s disciplinary committee.
The statement reads: “The NWC has reviewed the activities of the affected officials and found them to have engaged in conduct inconsistent with the provisions of the PDP Constitution and detrimental to the interest of the party.”
During the suspension period, Hon. Setonji Koshoedo, the Deputy National Secretary, will act as the National Secretary, while the National Director of Legal Services will oversee the legal department.
The decision comes amid escalating tension within the PDP, following a recent court ruling that restrained the party from proceeding with its planned national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16.
Party insiders say the latest move signals a deepening rift within the PDP hierarchy as leaders struggle to assert control and maintain unity ahead of key political events.
