In a major breakthrough, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has smashed a notorious burglary syndicate, arresting prime suspect Asuquo Archibong Effiong and recovering a cache of stolen goods from multiple receivers.
Effiong, a suspected cultist from Esuk Mba Village in Cross River but residing in Uruan LGA, was apprehended Wednesday morning following a tip-off. He confessed to leading house break-ins across Ifa Atai Village, Uyo, alongside two others still at large — Umoh and Twancy.
His confession led to the arrest of six suspected buyers of stolen items: Augustine Ita Essien, Sadam Musa, Usman Haruna, Umar Abubakar, Murtiala Muhammed, and Emmanuel Sunday — all residing around Ring Road III, Uyo.
Recovered from their hideouts were a generator, iron rods, eight solar batteries, binding wires, and assorted construction materials.
Police say investigations are ongoing to track remaining syndicate members and cult connections.
“The Command remains resolute in its mission to protect lives and property,” said PPRO DSP Timfon John.
