The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, today received in audience a delegation from the International Rescue Committee (IRC), led by Mr. Iko Elam, during a courtesy visit to the command headquarters.
The visit, held in the spirit of partnership and humanitarian collaboration, focused on the IRC’s ongoing interventions in Katsina State, particularly in areas worst hit by banditry. Mr. Elam outlined the organization’s multifaceted support initiatives, including empowerment programs, healthcare and nutrition assistance, and community-based protection services in Batagarawa, Batsari, and Katsina LGAs.
Highlighting IRC’s commitment to tackling gender-based violence, Elam sought deeper cooperation from the command to ensure safe and unhindered delivery of their services.
In his response, CP Bello Shehu commended the IRC for its timely and life-saving efforts in vulnerable communities and pledged the Command’s full support. He reaffirmed his administration’s open-door policy and welcomed robust collaboration with humanitarian actors.
On gender-based violence, the CP reiterated the Command’s firm resolve, citing the SCID’s dedicated unit for handling such sensitive cases.
The visit marks a significant step towards strengthening the synergy between security institutions and humanitarian organizations in the quest to restore peace and dignity to affected communities in Katsina.
