Council Polls: FCT Will Teach Wike a Political Lesson — Senator Kingibe Declares

Katsina state government

As political tension mounts ahead of the forthcoming Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Ireti Kingibe has issued a bold statement, warning Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, that the people of Abuja will use their votes to prove who truly owns the capital.

Speaking to a crowd of supporters in Gwagwalada on Monday, Kingibe, the senator representing the FCT, accused Wike of sidelining indigenous interests and treating the territory as a personal estate.

“Wike may think he controls Abuja, but the people are ready to remind him that this land belongs to them,” she said. “Come election day, residents will use the ballot to resist imposition and defend their dignity.”

The senator further criticized the minister’s alleged attempt to influence council leadership selections and warned of dire political consequences.

“This election is not just about councillors or chairmen—it is about identity, about respect, and about resisting tyranny in disguise,” she added.

The clash between Senator Kingibe and Minister Wike has deepened political divisions within the FCT, with both figures mobilizing their camps ahead of the polls.

Observers say the council elections will serve as a litmus test for Wike’s influence in the FCT and a major political battleground for 2027 realignments.

Will the people of Abuja rise to Kingibe’s call? Or will Wike prove his grip is unshakable? All eyes are now on the ballot.
