The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency through the provision of adequate combat enablers.
During his recent visit to Bukavu Barracks in Kano and Natsinta Barracks in Katsina, he assured troops of the Army’s efforts to address key welfare concerns, including barracks accommodation and post-service housing.
Expressing concern over the challenges faced by retired soldiers, particularly housing insecurity, he promised an expansion of the Affordable Housing Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) Scheme to enable more personnel to own homes before leaving service.
He urged soldiers to reciprocate the government’s support by maintaining their equipment and facilities for sustained durability.
The COAS received operational briefings from top commanders, including Maj.-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, Brig.-Gen. Babatunde Omopariola, and Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Tukur, on the security situation in their respective areas.
Accompanied by senior officers such as Maj.-Gen. Robert Sinjen, Maj.-Gen. Erema Akerejola, and Maj.-Gen. Abdulkalifa Ibrahim, the visit also featured the laying of wreaths at the Heroes Wall in honor of fallen soldiers.
