As 2027 elections loom, Coalition names Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai, Amaechi, Mark, and Aregbesola to lead regional charge
In a bold political move poised to reshape Nigeria’s electoral landscape, the Coalition of Nigeria has officially unveiled its zonal leaders across the nation’s six geopolitical regions — a strategic alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Unveiled in a high-stakes announcement earlier today, the Coalition named former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as leader for the North-East, ex-Senate President David Mark for the North-Central, and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai to command influence in the North-West.
On the southern front, former Rivers Governor and Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi was tapped to coordinate the South-South bloc, while former Anambra Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender Peter Obi will lead the charge in the South-East. Completing the lineup is former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, now saddled with steering the politically charged South-West zone.
Sources close to the Coalition say the move is aimed at creating a “formidable national alliance” that transcends party lines and ethnic divisions, with whispers of a possible mega coalition ticket already stirring speculation.
Analysts view the lineup as a powerful convergence of political heavyweights, each commanding significant followings in their respective regions. “This is not just a strategy; it’s a signal that the 2027 battle for Nigeria’s top seat has begun,” said one Abuja-based political analyst.
With six titans now holding the frontline banners, Nigeria’s political climate is entering a new phase of intrigue, alliances, and realignments—setting the stage for what may be the most unpredictable and high-stakes election in the Fourth Republic.
