A Chinese national working with ASBA Mining Company Group has died after collapsing at a quarry site in Wasa village, Abuja, sparking a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The victim, identified as Cao Chunri, 53, reportedly slumped at the company’s premises at about 2 p.m. on Sunday, according to a report filed to the Kabusa Division by company staff member Mohammed Abdulkareem at exactly 2:56 p.m. on Monday.
Witnesses said Chunri was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, but was confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.
Following the distress report, detectives from the Kabusa Division moved swiftly to the hospital, where they documented the remains before proceeding to the Wasa quarry site for an on-the-spot assessment.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the body has since been deposited at the FMC Jabi mortuary for preservation and autopsy, as investigators from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) take over the case to unravel what led to the sudden collapse.
Authorities say a full investigation is underway and that further updates will be provided upon conclusion of the medical and forensic examinations.
