A tragic incident involving a VIP convoy has left one person dead and several others injured after sporadic gunfire erupted amid a traffic jam on Bwari-Dutse Road, Abuja, on the evening of May 5, 2025.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the drama began when a Daf Trailer Truck lost its brakes and crashed into five tricycles, leaving eight people injured and two dead. But as emergency response efforts were underway, a VIP convoy navigating the gridlock reportedly opened fire into the air to clear the road.
Amid the chaos, a bullet struck Timothy John, a passerby from Dutse Baupma, in the chest. He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.
The identity of the VIP or the personnel responsible for the gunfire remains unknown, sparking outrage and calls for accountability. The shooting, now overshadowing the fatal crash, has intensified public scrutiny over the use of force by VIP security details.
Police have launched a dual investigation into both the crash and the fatal shooting, while the body of Timothy John remains at Kubwa General Hospital for autopsy.
The incident has raised serious concerns over unchecked VIP convoy behavior, with citizens demanding justice for the lives lost.
