Barely 24 hours after deadly suicide bomb incidents rocked Maiduguri, Nigeria’s top military chiefs have landed in Borno with a strong message: intensify the war and finish the fight against terrorism.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, alongside the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, arrived in Maiduguri on Wednesday for an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI.
Addressing troops at the Maimalari Cantonment, the CDS hailed their resilience and sacrifices in the face of persistent threats, urging them to remain steadfast and mission-focused.
He, however, issued a firm directive to commanders to escalate offensive operations, deepen intelligence efforts, and deploy innovative strategies to outmaneuver terrorist elements.
General Oluyede stressed the need to sustain momentum on the battlefield, assuring troops of continued strategic backing from Defence Headquarters to secure a decisive victory against insurgency in the North East.
Echoing the directive, the COAS commended troops for their unwavering commitment and battlefield discipline, charging field commanders to adopt a “never again” posture to prevent any resurgence of attacks—especially during sensitive periods like Ramadan.
He further pledged enhanced support, including critical resources and operational enablers, to strengthen force protection and boost the ongoing offensive campaign.
Earlier, the Theatre Commander briefed the visiting chiefs on operational developments, revealing that troops have maintained dominance across the theatre despite isolated setbacks.
He disclosed that over 200 terrorist fighters were neutralised in recent operations, with many others seriously wounded, significantly weakening their combat capacity.
Reaffirming their resolve, the command emphasized that troops of Operation HADIN KAI remain undeterred and fully committed to sustaining aggressive operations aimed at eliminating terrorist threats and restoring lasting peace and economic stability across the North East.
