In a bold leap toward modernization and global connectivity, Burkina Faso is rewriting its national narrative with the construction of the $700 million Ouagadougou-Donsin International Airport — the largest infrastructure project in the country’s history.
Dubbed a “gateway to the future,” the state-of-the-art airport is being built 35 kilometers northeast of Ouagadougou and is poised to replace the aging city-center airport. Once completed, the new facility is expected to handle over 5 million passengers annually and serve as a vital regional aviation hub in West Africa.
With a sprawling 4,000-meter runway, world-class passenger terminals, and cutting-edge cargo facilities, the Ouagadougou-Donsin project isn’t just about air travel — it’s a symbol of ambition. Backed by international partners and local stakeholders, the development is also projected to generate thousands of jobs, boost tourism, and open up new trade corridors.
“This is more than an airport — it is the liftoff of a new Burkina Faso,” said a government spokesperson during a recent press tour of the construction site.
The mega project aligns with the country’s national development plan and is already being hailed as a beacon of hope in a region often overshadowed by instability.
