In January 2025, Governor Buni was elected Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum, a position widely regarded as one that demands exceptional wisdom, diplomacy and calm judgment. The forum brings together governors and regional leaders from areas surrounding the Lake Chad Basin to coordinate development, security cooperation and humanitarian efforts in a region long affected by insurgency, climate change and economic challenges.
His election to the position was seen by many political observers as a testament to his leadership qualities and his track record in managing complex governance issues. As chairman, Buni was entrusted with the responsibility of guiding regional development efforts across six states within the Lake Chad Basin corridor.

His leadership trajectory continued to gather momentum in February 2025 when he was appointed Chairman of the **All Progressives Congress Constitution Amendment Committee.
The committee plays a critical role in reviewing and refining the party’s constitutional framework to ensure it reflects the evolving realities of Nigeria’s political landscape. As chairman, Buni was tasked with overseeing consultations, gathering input from stakeholders across the country and guiding discussions on reforms aimed at strengthening internal democracy within the ruling party.
Observers within the party say his experience as a former national chairman of the APC placed him in a strong position to lead such an important assignment, given his deep understanding of the party’s structures and operational dynamics.
Shortly after this appointment, Governor Buni was again called upon to take up another key responsibility as Chairman of the Committee on Co-option into the **APC National Executive Committee and APC National Working Committee.
The committee is responsible for managing the process through which new voices and experienced leaders are brought into the party’s highest decision-making bodies. This role places Buni at the centre of shaping the party’s leadership direction and ensuring that its governing structures remain inclusive and responsive.
