The project is being executed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) under the leadership of its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Goni Alkali.

Performing the symbolic flag-off ceremony, Governor Buni described the road as a “lifeline project” that will reconnect communities, open up rural economies, and strengthen security mobility across the Damaturu–Buni Yadi–Magza axis.

77 Kilometres of Strategic Impact
The ambitious project spans a total length of 77 kilometres and includes asphalt overlay and comprehensive rehabilitation works along the corridor.

The scope covers:
Filling of materials
Provision of sub-base and base course on shoulders
Construction of earth drains
Laying of 40mm thick asphalt
Officials disclosed that the road will be executed in two phases. Phase I, covering 25 kilometres, has already been awarded and contractors have been mobilised to site.

The Damaturu–Gujba–Buni Yadi–Magza corridor is considered vital for trade, agriculture, and inter-community connectivity.

Residents say the reconstruction will significantly reduce travel time, improve safety, and enhance access to markets and essential services.

The event drew top dignitaries including Deputy Governor Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, and NEDC Executive Director (Admin & Finance) Dr. Garba Iliya, alongside other senior state and commission officials.

Observers note that the project underscores NEDC’s mandate of rebuilding and stabilising the North-East through impactful infrastructure under its “Winning Together” development drive.

With heavy equipment already deployed for Phase I, expectations are high that the long-awaited road will soon transform mobility and economic prospects across the region.
