In a bold move to modernize land administration and boost economic development, Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, today commissioned the newly established Sokoto Geographic Information Service (SOGIS), an innovative agency created by the Sokoto State Government to digitize land records and promote transparency.
Governor Buni, who attended the event as Special Guest of Honour, congratulated Governor Ahmed Aliyu for what he described as “a forward-thinking, reform-driven initiative that will unlock massive opportunities for landowners, investors, and government institutions.”
“Sokoto has taken a giant leap into the future,” Buni declared. “With SOGIS, the days of manual bottlenecks, land disputes, and fraudulent transactions are numbered. This is what progress looks like.”
He praised Governor Aliyu for embracing innovation and urged other states to adopt similar reforms that would not only enhance ease of doing business but also attract private sector investments and improve internally generated revenue.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, in his remarks, thanked Governor Buni for honoring the state with his presence and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering a transparent and efficient governance system driven by technology and innovation.
SOGIS is expected to serve as the central hub for land data in Sokoto, offering geospatial services, digital mapping, and secure land documentation — all accessible through a user-friendly online platform.
Traditional rulers, top government functionaries, land experts, and stakeholders from across the region attended the historic event, which is already being hailed as a game-changer in the state’s urban development strategy.
With the launch of SOGIS, Sokoto joins the league of progressive states transforming land governance through technology — and Gov. Buni’s endorsement adds further credibility to this bold new chapter.
