In a bold move to stimulate grassroots commerce and expand economic opportunities, the administration of Mai Mala Buni has completed the construction of nine modern markets across strategic communities in Yobe State.
The markets—five ultra-modern and four modern facilities—are located in Yunusari, Ngala, Machina and Geidam, positioning the state as a growing hub for trade within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.
Speaking to journalists at the newly completed Yunusari Modern Market, the Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Bego, said the project was deliberately designed to boost the state economy and ensure that communities feel the dividends of democracy.
“These nine ultra-modern and modern markets are part of Governor Buni’s deliberate effort to empower traders, attract investment and stimulate local economic activities across Yobe,” Bego said.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Buba, noted that the markets were built to serve not only residents of Yobe but also traders from neighbouring states and the Republic across the border, strengthening cross-border commerce.
According to him, the markets are equipped with modern facilities designed to create a safe, organised and business-friendly environment that will encourage participation from people of all backgrounds and locations.
Residents and traders have welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention that will create jobs, reduce travel stress for commerce, and reposition Yobe as a key trading destination in the North-East.
With the completion of the nine markets, the Buni administration has once again underlined its focus on infrastructure-driven growth, community empowerment and sustainable economic development.
