In a historic ceremony on 23 August 2024, Brigadier General Babatunde Omopariola officially assumed command of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and the role of Commander of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Northwest Operation HADARIN DAJI (JTF NW OPHD).
The event took place at Natsinta Cantonment, Katsina, where Brigadier General Omopariola succeeded Brigadier General OA Fadairo, who has been reassigned as the Commander of 12 Brigade Lokoja.
Brigadier General Fadairo, in his farewell address at the 35 Battalion Parade Ground, praised the dedication of his officers and soldiers and urged them to continue their disciplined service under new leadership.
Brigadier General Omopariola, in his maiden speech, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve and committed to working closely with his team to maintain peace and stability in the region.
The ceremony included the signing of the Handing and Taking Over notes, the symbolic transfer of the Command Flag, and a Quarter Guard parade, marking the beginning of Brigadier General Omopariola’s leadership at 17 Brigade.
