Joint Security Forces have captured what they described as another major camp linked to IPOB/ESN militants in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, marking the fourth such facility taken since the launch of ongoing clearance operations.
Security sources said the latest raid uncovered a fortified hideout in a forested area of Ihiala, long believed to be a stronghold of armed elements of the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network.
During the operation, troops reportedly discovered several freshly dug graves suspected to belong to fighters killed in previous confrontations with security operatives. The grim find, officials say, underscores the intensity of recent clashes in the region.
Authorities described the camp as strategically positioned and allegedly used for coordination, logistics, and staging attacks. Items recovered at the scene are said to be undergoing further examination.
The latest breakthrough is part of a broader crackdown aimed at dismantling militant infrastructure and restoring stability across parts of the South-East. Security commanders reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the offensive until all identified camps are neutralized.
Residents in Ihiala expressed cautious optimism, hoping the sustained operations will ease months of tension and sporadic violence.
With four camps now reportedly overrun, the pressure appears to be mounting — and security forces insist the operation is far from over.
