In a dramatic escalation, the Islamic Republic of Iran has officially suspended its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), cutting off access to its nuclear facilities, halting data sharing, inspections, and routine notifications.
The move, announced late Monday by Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, comes amid rising tensions with Western powers and follows repeated warnings by Tehran over what it described as “politically motivated pressure” from the United States and its allies.
Effective immediately, IAEA inspectors will no longer be granted access to Iran’s nuclear sites, including centrifuge assembly workshops, uranium mines, and research centers. Surveillance footage and technical data transmissions have also been discontinued, raising serious concerns about the trajectory of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
“This is a dangerous step away from transparency and accountability,” said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, warning that the international community is now “flying blind” in monitoring Iran’s nuclear activities.
