At least nine people have been confirmed dead and several others abducted following a renewed bandit attack on Layin Danauta village in Kuyello Ward, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community on Thursday evening, shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze as residents fled for safety. Eyewitnesses said the gunmen surrounded the village, blocking all entry and exit points during the assault.
According to local sources, the bandits also kidnapped an unspecified number of residents, including women and children, while several others sustained gunshot injuries.
One resident, who narrowly escaped the attack, said the assailants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire indiscriminately. “They killed many people before taking others away. We couldn’t call for help because the network was down,” he said.
Security operatives have since been deployed to the area, though the Kaduna State Government and police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Birnin Gwari has been one of the worst-hit areas in Kaduna State, with frequent cases of bandit attacks, abductions, and destruction of property over the past few years. Residents have repeatedly appealed to both the state and federal governments to strengthen security presence in the area.
