The Federal High Court has adjourned the bail hearing of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to March 31 after a tense session marked by sharp legal exchanges between prosecution and defence teams.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, defence counsel, Ukpon Akpan, passionately urged the court to grant bail to the embattled former governor, stressing his constitutional right to liberty and the necessity of adequate time and freedom to prepare his defence.
Akpan argued that his client poses no flight risk and would fully cooperate with the judicial process if granted bail.
However, the prosecution strongly opposed the application, maintaining that the allegations against Nasir El-Rufai are grave and that releasing him at this stage could potentially hinder ongoing investigations.
After listening to both sides, the presiding judge declined to deliver an immediate ruling, instead adjourning the matter to March 31 for a decision on the bail application.
