Borno’s Security Summit: Zulum Leads National Protest Talks

The Borno State Council convened at the Government House in Maiduguri for an extraordinary security meeting to review the ongoing security situation in the context of the national protests led by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.

Speaking to the reporters briefly after the meeting the Commissioner for information and Internal Security prof Usman Tar outlined the key resolutions made by the Council after a comprehensive assessment of events from August 1st to 5th.

He said the Council expressed its appreciation for the dedication of security agencies, commending their adherence to legal and ethical standards.

The Borno State Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting these agencies as they discharges their constitutional duties accordingly.

The Council has resolved to enhance the gathering, dissemination, and use of intelligence to better support security operations. This includes improving how information is utilized to guide security agencies in their efforts.

Prof tar further stated that the Council emphasized the need for prompt prosecution of arrested suspects. It also underscored the importance of treating juvenile cases according to the law, with a directive for the Ministry of Justice to expedite the establishment of a juvenile justice system.

He said farmers in Borno State will be granted access to their farmlands, with security agencies and stakeholders urged to support the state’s agricultural initiatives.

Community engagement will be intensified, recognizing the critical role of local intelligence and public cooperation in apprehending suspects.

The Ministry of Information and Internal Security is tasked with fostering better engagement with the social media community to enhance communication.
The Situation Room and Command Centre will be re-established and equipped with necessary resources, operating in a coordinated manner with relevant agencies, Tar added

The information and Internal Security commsionner also reveals that: in a new directive, the transportation of unaccompanied children into Maiduguri will be strictly monitored and controlled, with only those properly identified and with clear destinations allowed entry.

Prof Tar reiterated that all security agencies are called upon to work together seamlessly to safeguard national security and integrity.
