In Borno State Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement, in collaboration with Peace Building Foundation, UNDP, IOM, UNICEF, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes, others, organized a one-day sensitization workshop for journalists and media practitioners on peace building and Conflict resolutions in the state .

G. R. A. Maiduguri aimed to highlight the role of the media in peacebuilding.
In his remark at the opening ceremony the Honorable Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, represented by the Permanent Secretary Alhaji Modu Mustapha, commended the organizers of the workshop.
He emphasized the media’s crucial role in addressing the root causes of conflict and in creating awareness and disseminating information to support peacebuilding efforts.
He noted that under Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s administration, over 162000 Boko Haram terrorists have surrendered as a result of the Borno Model.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement, Eng Ali Goni was represented by the technical adviser to the Ministry Mr. Bitrus Mshelia , stated that 162,000 people, including former Boko Haram members and their families, have been reintegrated into various rehabilitation camps in Maiduguri.
He highlighted the significant improvements in security, enabling people to access their farmlands and travel freely.
He also mentioned that many countries, including Ghana, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela, have shown interest in learning from the Borno Model.
The Chairman of the Borno State Union of Journalists, Comrade Dauda Iliya, expressed the union’s active participation in the workshop and commitment to the state’s reintegration process. He stressed the importance of media reportage in achieving the government’s 25-year development plan.
Hajja Aisha Ibrahim Kwayabra, Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, praised the media practitioners for taking charge of their responsibilities in peacebuilding. She highlighted NAWOJ’s collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Defense on peacebuilding and security initiatives.
