In a swift humanitarian response, the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has disbursed ₦96 million in cash and distributed essential relief materials to communities affected by recent flood disasters in Damboa and Chibok Local Government Areas.
The worst-hit villages include Gumsuri, Garjang, and Wovi in Damboa, as well as Mboa Whuntaku and Yarchida in Chibok.
This intervention follows an earlier distribution of relief support to 70 households impacted by a windstorm in Rumirgo town, located in Askira Uba LGA.
Leading the initiative, SEMA Director General, Alhaji Ali Abdullahi Isa, visited the affected communities alongside officials to conduct an on-the-spot damage assessment. He conveyed Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s condolences and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting victims through difficult times.
In line with this, Governor Zulum approved a comprehensive relief package comprising food items, non-food essentials, and financial aid to ease the suffering of residents.
Relief items shared include:
- 1,120 bags of rice
- 1,120 bags of maize
- 1,120 mattresses
- 1,120 wrappers and brocade (Shadda)
- ₦96 million in cash
Speaking during the supervised distribution, Alhaji Ali Abdullahi Isa expressed sympathy on behalf of the state government and thanked Governor Zulum for the swift approval and commitment to the welfare of disaster victims. He also offered prayers for divine protection against future disasters.
The exercise was carried out under tight coordination with relevant stakeholders, including security agencies, local government chairmen, and members of the State House of Assembly representing Damboa and Chibok.
Grateful beneficiaries commended Governor Zulum and SEMA for the timely assistance, describing it as a lifeline in the face of displacement and hardship.
