The Borno State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) is seeking approval to deploy biometric suspect identification technology to boost its fight against crime and social vices.
RRS Commander, ACP Abioye Babalola, unveiled the proposal during a Tuesday briefing in Maiduguri, citing its potential to strengthen investigations and proactive policing.
The anti-vices unit, tasked with tackling drug abuse, prostitution, and gangsterism, has recorded major successes this year — arresting 1,541 suspects, securing 1,164 convictions, and seizing narcotics worth about ₦27 million.
Babalola also appealed for improved welfare, more operational vehicles, and administrative facilities, praising his officers for their dedication despite challenges.
Established in 2020 and reinforced under a 2023 executive order, the rejuvenated RRS works with the military, NDLEA, DSS, Civil Defence, and community groups to curb vice-related crimes across Borno State.
The commander reaffirmed the squad’s resolve to protect lives, uphold law and order, and harness technology for a safer society.
